About Us

Bike Club Goals Fitness -Increase cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength/endurance (bicycling helps students prepare for the Fitness gram Test).

Each week we increase the number of miles we ride. Exercise-Encourage cycling and exercising as a life long activity for individual health and happiness.

We want to demonstrate to our students that exercising can be fun and exciting. Exploring-Students explore our environment/community by riding a bicycle.

We ride through local communities and along the Los Angeles River Bike Path. Community-outreach-Building relationships with local organizations.

Bonding-Students get the opportunity to build new friendships. We encourage one another to keep going and  persevere when we ride through challenging topography.

Students learn to ride as a team and to care for one another. Engagement-(At-Risk Youth) Our school serves students that are economically and socially disenfranchised, they are also surrounded by negative community influences.

The Bike Club offers an opportunity to keep students engaged in a safe, secure, positive, healthy environment. Students feel a sense of belonging to something special.

Self Confidence Building-By the end of the school year, students who participate in the bike club will be able to:

rely on themselves to commute safely through out their community on their bicycle if they own one, fix a flat tire, obey all safety and traffic laws, motivate their family members and friends to be physically active, learn the value of commitment to a team and complete the 21.2 mile bike ride from our community to Venice Beach!

I would like to state that aside from teaching at our school I also live in the Lincoln Heights Community.

I see the negative influences in our community: gangs, criminal behavior, homelessness, drug and alcohol abuse and mental health problems.

I understand the importance of having after school activities available for our students.

The Bike Club allows us to inspire and teach our students that there is a positive path to achieve their dreams and goals by reinforcing the 7 Bike Club Goals.
